We develop a compression algorithm that exploits this basis to obtain the most economical representation of the image in terms of textured patterns with di erent orientations, frequencies, sizes, and positions. The technique directly works in the Fourier domain and has potential applications for highly textured images.

Brushlets: A Tool for Directional Image Analysis and Image Compression
We construct a new adaptive basis of functions which is reasonably well localized with only one peak in frequency. We develop a compression algorithm that exploits this basis to obtain the most economical representation of the image in terms of textured patterns with different orientations, frequencies, sizes, and positions. The technique directly works in the Fourier domain and has potential a...

متن کاملLumen Border Detection of Intravascular Ultrasound via Denoising of Directional Wavelet Representations
In this paper, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) grayscale images, acquired with a single-element mechanically rotating transducer, are processed with wavelet denoising and region-based segmentation to extract various layers of lumen contours and plaques. First, IVUS volumetric data is expanded on complex exponential wavelet-like basis functions, also known as Brushlets, which are well localized ...
متن کاملColor Image Compression Based on Directional All Phase Biorthogonal Transform
There are images in which some directional edges other than the vertical or horizontal ones dominate. So the conventional discrete cosine transform (DCT) may not be the best choice for them. Directional DCT framework is able to provide a better coding performance for image blocks that contain directional edges. In addition, the all phase biorthogonal transform (APBT) algorithm can improve the p...
متن کاملBrushlet Features for Texture Image Retrieval
In this paper, we employ a new adaptive basis of functions — brushlets for extracting texture properties. Brushlets are functions which are well localized with only one peak in the frequency domain. Hence, a representation of texture in terms of spatial frequency distributions can be constructed. The Brushlet features are used in texture image retrieval experiments to assess its effectiveness b...
